Hi, I'm Nicole and I'm so happy you stopped by my website. I'm an Australian artist who loves to explore the realm between the abstract and the real, and to incorporate both in my works to create mood and reaction. I describe my work as 'contemporary', but (really) it's just 'me via paint' - mostly acrylic and some mixed media.
My love for 'all things art' began a long time ago. I attended my first oil painting class at the age of 10 and continued to discover my creative side through school. Subsequent to achieving A Levels, and receiving a place at the Queensland College of Art, I deferred my studies - only to return to my passion 30 years later – post a 17-year career in IT, and after raising a family.
Since 2017, I've studied full-time - under the tutelage of many professional artists, including Louise Fletcher, Nicholas Wilton, Patti Mollica, Colley Whisson, Jacqueline Hill, Daniel Butterworth and Bronwyn Searle. I continue to work amongst the Brisbane artist collective, regularly competing in competitions and exhibiting my works, while continuing to study.
Impressionism, contemporary art and ‘the abstract’ have heavily influenced my work, as has the movement of ‘street art’. I don't define my style within a defined parameter – instead, describing it as ‘individual and confidently eclectic’. My goal is not to ‘copy’ what I see – but to express a memory or an emotion. I want you to feel something when you see my work - to have a 'reaction' to it. I embrace color and 'the quirky', and hope that my works 'pull you in' to investigate - as they challenge you visually and sensorily.
My work's continuing to evolve – as I attempt to broaden my practice with more freedom and freshness. More recently, I've been studying with abstract artists and have thoroughly enjoyed the direction. So, please, watch this space.
In the meantime, thanks for dropping by. I hope my works bring joy and make you smile.
I'm a contemporary artist exploring paint as a medium to capture mood & tell stories. I'm from Brisbane, Australia.
